Resort set to rock with a bit of Buffett and Beach Boys

The beach at North Division Street in Ocean City is the place to be this Labor Day Weekend as two bands rock the resort.
On saturday, Aug. 31, Still Surfin' takes the stage to pay homage to The Beach Boys, and on Sunday, Sept. 1, Captain Quint - The Ultimate Jimmy Buffett Tribute Band will crank up the tunes.
The beach concerts are free and everyone is invited to come settle a blanket or beach chair on the snad, have a good time and say so long to summer.
A Great Falls, Va.-based band, Still Surfin' performs the music of the Beach Boys and other classic surf bands on Saturday at 8 p.m.
"The sound of the high falsetto voice over lush harmonies are truly the sound of an American summer," said Matthew Grose, the band's founder, about the Beach Boys well-known melodies.
When asked what attracted him to the style of music Still Surfin' plays, Grose said "The harmonies and the deceivingly difficult arrangements of the Beach Boys. The biggest factor is my love of the music. I've wanted to play this music since I was old enough to know what music is. I'm living my life long dream."
With Grose on lead vocals and keyboard, the band features traditional five-part harmonies and the intense surf guitar sound of the 60's.
Other band members are Wayne Durgan, vocals and 6/12 string guitar; Chris Forrest, vocals and bass guitar; Matt Midgette, vocals and guitar; Matthew Miller, drums and vocals; and Art "Surfer Joe" Svrjcek, vocals and guitar.
"Still Surfin' was my idea. I've always wanted to do Beach Boys music. I've played in all kinds of bands over the years, but I am finally doing exactly what I want musically," Grose said, a long-time fan of The Beach Boys.
The members of Still Surfin' are looking forward to their return engagement in the resort as part of Ocean City's Labor Day Weekend festivities.
"I started the band in March of 2000. This is our third year playing as a band and our second year performing in Ocean City," said Grose.
While Still Surfin' plays the Beach Boys' classics like "Don't Worry Baby","Surfer Girl", "In My Room", and "God Only Knows", the band also branches out into the music of other surf groups and artists of the '60s. Don't be surprised to hear tunes from artists like Jan and Dean, the Ventures, Dick Dale and the Safaries too.
